Pistol Permit Application Information
The responsibility to license people to carry a pistol/revolver is an important one. For that reason the Dunbarton Police Department will follow established guidelines set forth by the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office for this purpose. This insures a fair and consistent process that we will follow in every case.
Pistol/Revolver Permit Applications are available at the police station, town hall or can be filled out and printed from online. A .pdf fillable version of the form can be accessed here. The completed and legible application must be turned in at the Dunbarton Police Department, Dunbarton Town Hall or returned via US Postal Service to the Dunbarton Police Department, 18 Robert Rogers Road, Dunbarton, NH 03046. You may also email the completed, signed and dated form to dunbartonpd@gsinet.net or fax it to (603) 774-5600.
Upon receipt of the completed application the Dunbarton Police Department will undertake a background investigation which will consist of a criminal and motor vehicle history record check. Depending on the results of the criminal and motor vehicle history record checks further research might be required. The applicant will be notified within 14 days as to whether or not their application has been approved or denied. If the applicant is denied the reason for such denial will be furnished in writing to the applicant. If the applicant is approved a permit will be issued and the applicant will be notified that they can pick the completed permit up at the Office of the Dunbarton Town Administrator located at the Dunbarton Town Hall, 1011 School Street. There is a $10.00 application fee that is set by state statute. The applicant will need to bring a check payable to the Town of Dunbarton or cash to the town hall at the time they pick their permit up.
Although a Pistol/Revolver Permit is no longer required to carry a handgun concealed in the State of New Hampshire, applicants may still wish to obtain a permit to satisfy entry requirements to certain gun safety or training courses, or to satisfy permit reciprocity with other states.
