On Wednesday, May 12th 2021 members of the Dunbarton Police and Fire Departments were trained in “Mental Health First Aid for Public Safety” by National Alliance on Mental Illness (“NAMI”) New Hampshire Community Educator and CIT Coordinator Susan Allen-Samuel. The course focused on how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders as well as the importance of self-care for first responders. In addition, the topics of defusing crises, promoting mental health literacy and connecting people to care were discussed. The certification is valid for a period of 3 years.
We were very fortunate to receive this training for free through a grant secured by NAMI NH. We’d like to offer a sincere thank-you to Susan as well as NAMI NH for their continued partnership and dedication to promoting mental health training for first responders.
